Sterling has performed and recorded with The Beach Boys, Barry Manilow, Kris Kristofferson, Steve Perry, Bob Dylan, Jan & Dean, Tanya Tucker, Sonny & Cher and The Dovells.

Sterling can be heard in the movie soundtracks of "Old School," and "Footloose." He toured North America as musical director and on-stage pianist for Twyla Tharp and Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Sterling fronted his own band called, "The Load," which released two albums of original material.
